Here are the latest updates on MACS OBA. I am happy to inform as follows:
1. Membership - We now have 85 life members. The biggest group is from Class of 1971 which had 21 members prior to their Reunion Luncheon last Saturday 24 August 2019 at KGSAAS, Shah Alam, Selangor where an additional 15 members signed up, making a total of 36 members. Class of 1970 and 1973 are joint second with 6 members each, followed by 1964 and 1979 with 4 each. We hope more will sign up soon - we do know many are keen to sign up but work and procrastination are holding them back. Class of 1973 are having their Reunion Dinner this September 7, 2019... C'mon guys, can you do better than 1971? :).
1.a. What Benefits are there for me? - We've often been asked on the benefits of joining the OBA. The answer is that the OBA is not just a social club but a grouping of alumni who want to give back something to the school, whether in small or bigger ways. Your one-time payment of RM110.00 life time membership fee is actually your small but important contribution to efforts intended to help our alma mater, where possible. For your "small" donation, you get a Membership Card, fellowship, a belonging with your alma-mater and some networking in the years to come. Your individual support is very important and will go a long way as a whole to help with further fund raising and implementation of projects for benefit for both alma-mater and alumni.
1.b. There are about at least 800 - 1000 active MACSians in social media in touch via, for example, this chat group, the ACS Malacca Facebook Group, The MACSIAN Facebook Group, the CentenaryMACS Yahoo!Group Email Loop and individual batch WhatsApp groups. If each old boy will sign up (if not yet a member) and/or ask a couple of his classmates to sign up, we can easily become one of the largest, though youngest, OBAs in the state or country in quick time!
2. AGM - Your Pro-tem Committee has been working hard to set a strong foundation, structure and financial position before handing over the management to a new Committee to be elected at the first AGM scheduled October, or in any case before this year end.
We hope to see interested MACSians volunteer and stand for election to be in the new committee. Many MACSians have in the past and some still continue to volunteer their personal or batch service and time to assist the school today. This MACS OBA was set up to help you continue with your much appreciated and invaluable service via a legal entity which can facilitate even more effective and larger plans.
3. Financial Report - a. The ChuaCC Fund members are ready to handover approx RM13,000.00 to MACS OBA, upon maturity of this Fixed Deposit sum later this year. b. The MACS100 balance funds of about RM32,000.00 are also ready for handover to MACS OBA. c. Meanwhile, membership fees and donations received todate total approx RM12,300.00. To-date, the overall funds of our MACS OBA will thus stand at about RM57,300.00.
Do Sign Up Today! - We really would like to see old boys passionate and committed to alma mater and alumni activities to be in the new committee. Please sign up as a member so that you may be nominated for election, or to be eligible to support your own nominees at the AGM.
