Dr Lee Lai Hung, 92, Class of 1946, is our first Honorary Member. As he recalls, the Japanese occupation during the World War II disrupted the studies of school going children in 1941. In his case he had to resume schooling after the war in 1945 from where he was left

off in Standard 6 but was quickly rushed through his studies to Form 5 for the
Senior Cambridge examinations which he passed in 1946. Having considered some engineering and aeronautical courses offered, he finally decided to do medicine in the University of Hong Kong for which a pass in Mandarin in an entry test was mandatory. He took up the challenge and by way of some extra tuition managed to be accepted for the course.

He is one of the earliest amateur or Ham radio licensees in the country with a current callsign 9M2GA (original callsign VS2GA, 1957 license). Another hobby was D-I-Y boat-building. Dr Lee had embarked on building a Wharram design 38' catamaran a decade ago but a serious arm injury put paid to his half-completed dream project... well, at least for the moment.
Meanwhile Dr Lee kept busy re-planting his agricultural land with various crops

including cocoa, durian and Gaharu or Aquilaria trees. His most current on-going project is planting mangosteen and Ochee durian on a 5 acre plot.
A man with great memory, rarely any events, scientific facts, faces and name escapes Dr Lee. He keeps his mind active reading mostly scientific books "trying to grasp concepts which he hardly understands" as he readily admits.
The secret to his youthfulness and good health? "Eat all the durian you want. Enjoy it, Gula Melaka too" he quips with a smile.
